The Opinion Terminal – Free Alaska Airlines Miles

The Opinion Terminal is an invitation-only panel that is exclusive to Alaska Airlines’s Mileage Plan members. By taking surveys and providing your feedback on products and services, you’ll be eligible to receive free Alaska Airlines miles. This is a community where consumers can give their opinions about various products and services. To join, just fill out an online form, accept the terms and conditions, and then you will receive the link to the survey site. Once you have completed the application form, you’ll start to receive survey invitations per email asking for your thoughts and ideas.

What is Mileage Plan?

Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan is a loyalty program that allows members to earn and redeem miles when they fly with Alaska Airlines and their partners (such as The Opinion Terminal). Members can earn miles by flying on Alaska Airlines, as well as on other airlines that are part of the Mileage Plan program, such as American Airlines, Emirates, and British Airways.

Mileage Plan members can redeem their miles for flights on Alaska Airlines and their partners, as well as for upgrades, car rentals, hotel stays, and other travel-related expenses. Members can also use their miles to donate to charitable organizations or to purchase merchandise and gift cards. Mileage Plan has several tiers of membership, including MVP, MVP Gold, and MVP Gold 75K, which offer various benefits, such as priority boarding, free checked bags, and access to airport lounges.

How many free Alaska Airlines Miles can I earn?

When joining the panel you’ll get up to 400 free Alaska Airlines miles if you complete at least one survey in full. According to Nerdwallet, Alaska Airlines Miles are worth 1.2 cents, which means your first bonus is worth close to $5. This is in line with similar loyalty panels run by the market research company Dynata. After the initial bonus, you’ll get rewards by completing surveys. In our experience, this amounts to 30 – 70 points per completed survey ($0.30 – $0.70). So while the initial bonus is great, your earnings are a lot lower for the consecutive surveys you take.

Here are some examples of survey invitations we got through The Opinion Terminal:

  • Survey comparing breakfast cereal brands – 50 points ~$0.60
  • Microsoft Office satisfaction survey – 70 points ~$0.84
  • Electricity provider survey – 60 points ~$0.72
  • TV streaming survey – 50 points ~$0.60

As you can see from the surveys above, the topics are not related to Alaska Airlines or even travelling in general. Actually, The Opinion Terminal is a website that is entirely owned and operated by the market research provider Dynata.

Redemption of miles

You don’t need to wait until you’ve accumulated a certain amount of miles before you redeem your points. In addition to the handsome join bonus, this is one of the most positive features of The Opinion Terminal. It might take a few days, but you’ll eventually see your Alaska Airlines Miles automatically transferred to your main Mileage Plan account.

Is The Opinion Terminal legit?

If you’ve received an invitation to join The Opinion Terminal, you might wonder how safe your information is going to be. After all, there is not much information on the website about which company is behind this. We can confirm that the company behind this survey site, Dynata, is a legit market research provider with decades of experience operating research panels. By becoming an official partner of Air Alaska’s Air Mileage Plan, Dynata can “tap into” Air Alaska’s member pool while monetizing participants’ data and survey feedback. Dynata will sell your survey answers to their clients, and in return, you’ll receive a small token of appreciation in the form of free Alaska Airlines miles.

Is my data safe?

The operator of the website, Dynata, is a serious market research company which we can assume will do everything it can to protect your data. Monetizing respondents’ survey responses is their bread and butter, and we don’t think they will do anything to jeopardize their position as one of the key market research providers. At the same time, it makes sense to understand how your data is handled and how it is shared with other companies. Generally speaking, your survey answers will be shared with the 3rd party clients of Dynata, while your most sensitive profile information such as email address and telephone number will be shared more sparingly. Also, Dynata will not sell your contact details to marketing companies, so you don’t need to be concerned about getting spammed all of a sudden.
